WordPress asks a startlingly hard question right out of the gate in Blogging 101:
“Why do you want to blog publicly instead of journal privately?”
It’s taken a while but I’ve come up with an answer.
Blogging holds me accountable.
I journal to sort out issues on my mind and situations in my life. If my thoughts, prayers and goals are in my journal, they just sit there. No one knows if I do or don’t act on anything. If I blog about my thoughts, prayers and goals, the world knows and I am held accountable.
For me, journaling is for introspection and healing. It’s safe. Blogging is laying bare my throat and sharing, for the hope of growth. It’s terrifying. But is there growth in perpetual safety? Life is short; I’m ready to grow. Here’s my throat.
